Animals in Agriculture (6)

When discussing animals in agriculture it is also important to mention cognitive dissonance. As it is the mental discomfort or stress a person experiences when they have a contradicting belief. Our society has a complicated relationship with factory farming. There are people on total opposite sides of the spectrum of belief in whether animals in agriculture should exist or not then there are people that experience cognitive dissonance with this topic.

The welfare and husbandry concerns for animals in agriculture are drastic. There are many concerns from the freedom aspect. These animals are held similarly to hostages, they do not have a choice, they are dominated and controlled for their entire lives for our  “benefit”. The animals and agriculture industry creates more cons than pros, this industry requires massive amounts of land, food, and energy resulting in polluted land, water, and air. This industry is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the entirety of the world's transportation system. If the system cannot be extinct then there needs to be changes made to it. We have altered animals to where they cannot live a healthy life.

Sadly there is a slim chance of the animals in agriculture industry to go extinct. Humans have eaten meat for as long as we can remember, there are people that are not willing to give up eating meat for multiple reasons. There are people that believe animals are on this planet for human usage and consumption. However, the only way that would make it possible would be the massive success of growing meat in a lab setting. There are beliefs that free range meat is ethically sourced when there is a lie told to the people adding to the mental stress people face. This is a difficult topic to come to a conclusion to as it holds such a large Gray area that needs to be addressed.
